Is raw silk really just silk?
A chemical process of preparing the strands removes the protein layers that would otherwise stick during weaving, resulting in pure silk. Weaving unprocessed strands that still contain sericin results in raw silk. Since the strands aren’t perfectly uniform, the fabric has a little gritty texture while still feeling smooth and boasting a beautiful sheen in its purest form.
