Painting on handmade paper.
Nepalese and Indian artists in the Mithila region of India and Nepal perform a form of painting known as Madhubani Art (or Mithila painting). That’s where it began, thus it was given the name Madhubani. A variety of tools, such as fingers, twigs and brushes are used to create this piece of art, which is then coloured with natural dyes and pigments. An eye-catching geometrical pattern characterises this design. Special occasions like birth and marriage are marked by ritual content, as are festivals like as Holi, Upanayana, Surya Shasti, Kali Puja, and Durga Puja.
Women in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent traditionally developed Madhubani painting (Mithila painting). It came from the Mithila region of Bihar’s Madhubani district. This painting’s biggest export market is Madhubani. Mithila Painting was extensively practised throughout the region, but the growth of paper and canvas painting in the villages around Madhubani led to the term “Madhubani art” being used alongside “Mithila Painting.”
Aside from freshly plastered walls and floors, the paintings were traditionally done on cloth and handmade paper.
Powdered rice is used to create Madhubani paintings. The content and style of Madhubani painting have essentially remained the same over the ages, despite the fact that the art form has spread across the globe. Madhubani paintings are now protected as GI (Geographic Indication) artworks due to this development. The colours used in Madhubani paintings are taken from plants and are used in two-dimensional imagery. When painting reddish-brown, use Ochre, Lampblack or Red.
