Ekkat Kanjivaram

A sari, also known as a saree, is a type of women’s clothing originally from the Indian subcontinent.  Sari It is made of an unstitched drape that can range in length from 4.5 to 9 yards (4.1 to 8.2 meters) and width from 600 to 1,200 millimeters (24 to 47 inches). It is typically wrapped around the waist with one end draped over the shoulder, partially exposing the midriff.  India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal are among the nations where it is customarily worn. There are several ways to make and drape saris, with the Nivi style being the most popular. Ekkat Kanjivaram The sari is worn with a choli, also known as a fitting bodice, and a ghagra, parkar, or ul-pavadai petticoat. The Indus Valley Civilization, which existed between 2800 and 1800 BCE in the northwest of South Asia, is where the history of sari-like clothing may be found. Around the fifth millennium BCE, cotton was first grown and woven on the Indian subcontinent. Ekkat Kanjivaram Sanskrit for “ik,” which is used to describe women’s clothing in the earliest Hindu writings, gave rise to the word “sari.” A three-piece outfit consisting of the stanapatta, a chestband, the uttarya, a veil worn over the shoulder or head, and the antarya, the bottom garment, gave rise to the sari or “ik.” In the sixth century BCE, this group is attested in both Buddhist Pali and Sanskrit literature. Poshak, a general term for costume, was the name of this entire three-piece outfit. The “fishtail” variant of the ancient antariya, which was slipped through the legs, covered them loosely, and then flowed into long, ornamental pleats at the front of the legs, was quite similar to the dhoti wrap. Ekkat Kanjivaram Sari It later developed into the Bhairnivasani skirt, sometimes referred to as ghagri and lehenga today. Ekkat Kanjivaram Sari Old Tamil poetry like the Silappadhikaram and the ancient Sanskrit work Kadambari by Banabhatta both depict women wearing beautiful saris. For instance, during the 200 years of British rule in West Bengal, where I was born, weavers lost the ability to create the elaborate narrative motifs of the Ekkat Kanjivaram. Cotton sarees can be worn all year long, not just in the summer. A few cotton sarees (Soft, Lenin, and Provincial) will provide you a comfortable sensation in addition to an attractive appearance. Cotton sarees are always a good choice for those who want comfort and a straightforward appearance. It is generally acknowledged that Indian women have worn wrapped sari-like clothes for a very long time, and that they have been worn in their current form for hundreds of years. Sometimes shawls or scarf-like garments called “uttariya” have also been worn for the upper body. The term “nivi” or “nivi bandha” was used in ancient fashion to describe the lower garment, whereas the upper body was largely left uncovered. The krpsaka, a type of tightly fitting breast band that did nothing more than hide the breasts, is mentioned in the works of Kalidasa. Additionally, it was occasionally referred to as an uttarsaga or stanapaa. According to sculptures and paintings, it is thought that cholis, or tight bodices, developed between the second century BCE and the sixth century CE in a variety of regional forms. The first cholis had a front covering that was tied at the rear; this design was more prevalent in several areas of ancient northern India. The state of Rajasthan still uses this traditional kind of bodice, known as a choli. On cholis, various types of decorative traditional needlework are applied, including gota patti, mochi, pakko, kharak, suf, kathi, phulkari, and gamthi.
