A sari or saree (sometimes also shari)[note 1] is a women’s garment from the Indian subcontinent that consists of an unstitched drape ranging in length from 4.5 to 9 yards (4.1 to 8.2 metres) and width from 600 to 1,200 millimetres (24 to 47 inches) that is wrapped around the waist and draped over the shoulder, partly baring the midriff. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal are among the countries where it is customarily worn. The most frequent form of sari manufacturing and draping is the Nivi style. The sari is worn with a choli (ravike or kuppasa in southern India, and cholo in Nepal) and a ghagra, parkar, or ul-pavadai petticoat.
